Description of Works:
By way of demonstrating experience of carriageway re-construction and resurfacing MacLay Civil Engineering Ltd were appointed as Principal Contractor by West Lothian Council under the Construction [Design and Management] Regulations 2007 to deliver the Dixon Terrace Traffic Calming and Resurfacing works in Whitburn, West Lothian. The scheme involved the reconstruction of the existing carriageway from formation level with Type 1, base, binder and surface courses with the installation of traffic calming measures along the length of Dixon Terrace from Longridge Road to Burnhouse Industrial Estate. Traffic calming measures incorporated within the works included raised flat topped tables in 5 locations and a series of road narrowing measures with kerbed build-outs and a signalised crossing facility. All existing ironwork was adjusted to suit new carriageway levels and additional drainage installed. Works were carried out in phases to ensure stakeholder access was satisfactorily maintained throughout the project. Road markings were applied and street furniture including bollards was installed. These measures are intended to limit the size of vehicles using Dixon Terrace east of Burnhouse Industrial Estate. Dixon Terrace is primarily a residential street with a number of new dwellings built in recent years.
